Genesee Valley Quilt Club (GVQC) and Blank Textile are pleased to invite you to participate in the GVQC 2009 Quilt Challenge. This challenge is open to 300 participants and will be exhibited at the 2009 GVQC Quilt Show, to be held June 5, 6 and 7, 2009 at the RIT Gordon Field House in Henrietta, New York.

Blank Textile is providing $1,000 in prize money for this event with $500 awarded to the first place, $300 to second place, $100 to third place, and $50 each to two honorable mention placements.

Kit Fee: $20 Includes kit, entry fee and return postage

Theme: Blending Art and Tradition

Rules:

  • Participants will construct an original quilt that exhibits their personal interpretation of the theme
  • Quilt s are to be constructed after January 2008 must be completed and submitted to GVQC by April 30, 2009
  • The 100% cotton fat quarter included in the kit is provided for inspiration and the quilt must use a significant portion (50% or greater) of the fabric in the body of the quilt (borders, binding and backing are excluded.) You may add any amount of additional fabrics.
  • The maximum size of the entry must not exceed 96 linear inches with no side greater than 24”. The final shape is up to the designer.
  • Any means of construction may be used that results in three layers (top, batting, backing.) The layers may be joined by any method.
  • Please keep the weight of each entry under 5 pounds.
  • Hanging sleeves are not required.
