"I always look forward to the GVQC festival. From the most meticulous traditional
handwork to the funkiest AND
the most elegant contemporary work -- there is something for everyone to enjoy.
And the vendors are superb. Bring your cash, your notebook, and your camera --
fill your stash and your brain with color and pattern."
-- Janet Berlo, quilter and quilt historian
Welcome
to the Genesee Valley Quilt Festival "Garden of Quilts".
The Genesee Valley Quilt Club, Inc will hold their biennial quilt
festival
June 5-7, 2009
at the RIT Gordon Field House. Three times the show’s previous capacity, the
festival features speakers, workshops, vendors, demonstrations, as well as a
crowd pleasing quilt exhibit of over 1,000 quilts.
One of the
nation’s longestcontinuously
meeting quilt clubs, the Genesee Valley Quilt Club (GVQC) promotes and
encourages quilt making throughout the greater
Genesee Valley region centered near Rochester, New York.
The theme
of this festival “Garden
of Quilts” takes a fresh look at a traditional craft with speakers who show that this
art is definitely not what your grandmother made. Guest speakers include Jane
Sassaman, internationally known quilt artist, Mary Mashuta, who takes
tradition with a twist, and Paula Scaffidi, who is also known as “Fiberella”.
These headliners are joined by regional guest speakers and instructors.
The quilt
challenge, sponsored by Blank Textiles, encourages quilters to design with the
theme ‘Blending Art and Tradition” and will supply prize money to $1,000.
Vendors at
the festival come from far and wide, and variety will be the draw for quilters,
hand crafters, fiber artists and sewers as well. Festival organizers
anticipate a capacity crowd.
Our 2009 raffle quilt "Midnight
in the Garden" was made by the talented members of the Genesee Valley Quilt Club. Raffle tickets will be available for
purchase at our Quilt Festival June 5-7 or from any member. Our drawing will
take place October 16, 2009. You need not be present to win.
